Ravens Route Day 4 – Appleby-in-Westmorland to Barnard Castle

Tuesday was Ravens Route Day 4. We left the Royal Oak in Appleby-in-Westmorland, which was a great place to stay.

Ready to start the day

We took a slight detour and crossed over a footbridge.

We spotted a sign for the Rutter Falls Waterfall and so took a detour to investigate. It was well worth the detour!

We then continued along the route.

We stopped at the Church Gallery cafe in Kirby Stephen for a morning break.

We then started our climbing up towards Tan Hill.

We crossed over the border and continued on towards Tan Hill Inn.

We were all very happy to finally arrive at the Tan Hill Inn, where we were stopping for lunch, it had been a hard morning of climbing!

After a good lunch, we continued along the road for a while.

We turned off the road and descended along an off-road track for a while.

Having dropped right down to a place called Bowes.

We finally arrived at The Red Well Inn where we were staying for the night.

We had cycled 42 miles and climbed over 4000 feet.

In the evening we went to Il Palazzo Italian restaurant, where we had a really great meal!
