Pennine Cycleway Day 6 – Settle to Hebden Bridge

Pennine Cycleway Day 6 – Settle to Hebden Bridge

Pennine Cycleway Day 6 took us from Settle to Hebden Bridge. Thankfully the day started out a lot cooler than the previous day. We knew the climb out of the back of Settle was a tough one – I had tried it on a couple of previous occasions and both times it had beaten me and I had to walk up part of it! The last time was a few months ago, when we did the Way of the Roses cycle tour.

Along the way, we found our way blocked by some highland cattle that were not too interested in moving out of our way.

We stopped in Gargrave at The Dalesman Cafe for refreshments.

Our route took us along the canal for a while. We stopped at Cafe Cargo at Foulridge Canal Warf for lunch.

There was of course more climbing to come!

Once we reached Hebden bridge we thought we were about done for the day. Following NCN 68, we had to walk down a really steep cobbled road – although Andy Shaw rode down, the rest of us struggled to walk! Having got down into the town, we then had to climb up the other side to the hostel we were staying at called Mama Weirdigan’s (an interesting place). In the evening we eat out at a great Turkish restaurant called The Olive Branch – it was great food. It was the last evening that all 7 of us would be together as both Tracey and Ian were going home the next day, so we were having an end of ride celebration.

We cycled 38.12 miles and climbed 3576 feet that day.
