Halls Route 2018

Halls Route 2018

The Stockport Community Cycling Club Halls Route 2018 was a modified version of a regular SCCC ride, though interestingly, it hasn’t actually been on the calendar for the last few years (see here for the 2015 edition). The route passes by, or near to, a number of historically interesting old halls within the Stockport borough.

We met at Ceracycloan, where staff were interested in showing us a few new cycling items.

Then it was on to the ride itself. Graham was leading the ride. However, since there were so many of us, we split into two groups. I led the second group, assisted by the two other Andy’s. The photos are mainly from this second groups ride.

We began by dropping down to St Mary’s Way.

Leaving St Mary’s Way, we turned towards Bredbury.

We picked up Mill Lane, also known as the Alan Newton Way at Bredbury Hall (the first hall of the day), and which forms a section of NCN Route 55.

We passed Goyt Hall farm.

A brief section of main road, before we turned on to Bongs Road.

Next, we passed Offerton Hall.

We navigated our way through Offerton estate.

This brought us out at Hazel Grove.

Next, we made our way around Mirrlees fields and towards Woodsmoor.

Perhaps surprisingly, the route didn’t get very close to Bramhall Hall, probably the best known of Stockport’s halls. Instead, we cycled down North Park Road and then turned off towards Tenement Lane.

This took us down to the Ladybrook Valley.

The path here has been recently upgraded.

We then headed over towards Cheadle Leisure Centre.

Crossing Wilmslow Road we then headed up Bruntwood Lane and to Bruntwood Hall.

Here, we stopped for the coffee break at The Vinery cafe and met up with the other group for a short time.

After the coffee break, we cycled towards Cheadle, where we passed another hall …

Cheadle Drill Hall!

There are (or more accurately, were) actually two halls in Cheadle. The first one we passed was the layout of Cheadle Hall.

Then we passed Abney Hall (of Agatha Christie fame amongst other things).

Next, we joined the River Mersey and headed back towards Stockport town centre

We turned off at Gorsey Bank and headed up to Edgeley.

Finally, we passed the town hall and returned to the start.

We had completed just under 19 miles. This is always an interesting and informative cycle route, and the route this year proved to be just that.
