Freezing Oxford

Freezing Oxford

We were staying at the Oxford Peartree Travelodge, and in the morning walked round to the Park and Ride with the plan of getting the bus into the centre of Oxford. As we walked past the services, we noticed that the fountains were freezing.

It did feel cold but we still found it strange! The bus took us straight into the city centre – welcome to the world of cycling!

We wondered around the centre of Oxford exploring the sights, or at least some of them. First of all we walked down Bulwark’s Lane.

That brought us out by County Hall.

Which is next to Oxford Castle Unlocked and the old prison.

From there we wandered around looking at some of the sights on our way to Christ Church.

It was time for some refreshments and to get warm, so we went to the Art Cafe in Bonn Square. It did some fabulous gluten-free cakes.

Feeling suitably refreshed and warmed, we headed back out to explore further.

Our next destination for the day was the Bodleian library. In fact it started to snow when we got there!

We had a look around their Love & Devotion from Persia and Beyond exhibition, which was very interesting. From there we headed down to the St Mary the Virgin University Church and had a late lunch in their Vaults & Garden cafe.

After lunch we had a quick look around the Church.

Our next stop was the Information Centre on Broad Street, where they we very helpful.

By now it was late afternoon, a bit too early for tea but we had decided that it was far too cold for anymore sightseeing, so we popped into the Blackwell’s bookshop for a good look around. You could spend hours in there, it is huge, we however only had a quick look around and then walked down to Park End Street where the 4500 Miles from Delhi Indian restaurant was – this was where we went for our evening meal. We had an excellent meal there and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Our only real disappointment was the weather – it reached a high of zero but the wind make it feel very much colder, quite painful at times. The forecast is not much different for tomorrow unfortunately. Still we managed to enjoy our day regardless of the weather.
