Edinburgh’s Hidden Gems & Tourist Spots

Edinburgh’s Hidden Gems & Tourist Spots

As the weather forcast had not been great, we decided not to cycle on the Monday. Plan B was therefore to walk into Edinburgh and have a look at some of the tourist things and then go for a coastal walk in the afternoon.

We wandered over to the Royal Mile and headed away from the Castle.

Down a little passageway off the Royal Mile, we discovered a wonderful community garden called Dunbar’s Close Garden, which is open to the public.

At the bottom of the Royal Mile was the modern building of the Scottish Parliament. Normally this is open to the public but unfortunately it was closed for recess when we were there.

Across the road as a complete contrast were the old buildings of the Queen’s Gallery and the Palace of Holyrood House.

We then walked back up the Royal Mile (towards the Castle) and stopped off at the Museum of Edinburgh – which was very interesting.

Having had a look around the museum, we continued on to St Giles Cathedral.

We went into the Cathedral to have a look around.

In the basement of St Giles Cathedral there was a cafe, where we had one of the tastiest bowls of soup that I think I have ever had! Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

We then had to walk back to the car as our parking meter was about to expire.

By the time we had reached the car, we had clocked up 4 miles!
