Back to Civilisation – Cycling to Goostrey

Back to Civilisation – Cycling to Goostrey

This time last week we were cycling to Land’s End and completing our JOGLE cycle tour. That tour had included many days of cycling down lanes through Scotland, England and Wales that were completely unknown to us – it was great. This week however it has been difficult at times to get back in to the regular routine both at home and at work. And today it was back to another familiar – a Sunday cycle ride with Stockport Community Cycling Club through the Cheshire Lanes on our way to lunch at Goostrey. Was this going to seem tame in comparison?

Starting at Wilmslow Leisure Centre a large number of cyclists turned out on a warm Sunday morning, perhaps inspired by the Tour De France.

We were soon heading out of Wilmslow through Chorley and Lindow End.

And on through Marthall.

Lunch was taken at Goostrey Home & Leisure Tea Room on Goostrey Lane. We have been here before. The menu consists of basic and reasonably priced food ideal for cyclists (and they attract alot of us!). What arrives is hearty and tasty.

Attached to the complex are various attractions …

Today’s ride was 30 miles. Including my ride to the start and back home again I cycled nearly 50 miles today. Following our JOGLE this was an enjoyable and gentle re-introduction to civilisation and cycling around Cheshire.
