Way of the Roses 2017 Day 5 – Hutton Cranswick to Bridlington

Way of the Roses 2017 Day 5 was our final day of cycling on the tour.

It was another fine sunny day when we left The White Horse Inn at Hutton Cranswick.

We began by heading towards Driffield along NCN Route 1.

Arriving in Driffield we had to wait for the local train before we could enter the town centre. This was just one of quite a few crossings we had to make due to the first section of our route essentially following the same path as the railway line.

Next, we cycled through Nafferton.

And then over another railway crossing.

Through Harpham.

And another railway crossing.

And after yet another railway crossing we arrived at the outskirts of Burton Agnes.

All that criss-crossing of railway lines had meant we had built up quite a thirst. A brew was required, and Burton Agnes Hall cafe was just the place to supply it.

It was such a fine day and we had plenty of time, so we decided to have a look around the hall and gardens itself.

We started with the old Norman mansion.

And then moved on to the Elizabethan mansion built by Sir Henry Griffith.

Burton Agnes Hall

After looking around the hall we decided to prolong our stay at Burton Agnes Hall even further and have some lunch, before taking a look around the gardens.

Time was passing quickly, so it proved a quick garden visit indeed.

Back on the road we rejoined NCN Route 1 and continued our journey to the cost.

We arrived in Bridlington old town late in the afternoon.

Then weaved our way through the town.

Finally arriving at the northern shore an the finish of the Way of the Roses.

Today, we had cycled 25 miles. Over the week we had cycled over 200 miles, of which 170 had been along the actual  Way of the Roses coast-to-coast route.

Next, we set off to find The Bluebell Guest House where we would be staying on our final night of the tour.

Then what do you do to celebrate? Take a ride on one of these?

Possibly. Or perhaps go for a run?

Maybe. However, a well earned relax with a ‘perfect pint’ sounded like a far better solution!

In the evening we took a stroll to the other end of the promenade for a celebration meal at Yips Chinese Restaurant. Recommended by our Guest House hosts this proved an excellent choice.

The journey home

This started off with a game of crazy golf. After all those hole-in-ones (much to Sarah’s own surprise), the guys reckon we may have found a potential candidate for next year’s Women’s Open.

Finally, after a great week, it was time to say goodbye and head for home.
