Way of the Roses 2017 Day 4 – York to Hutton Cranswick

Way of the Roses 2017 Day 4 – York to Hutton Cranswick

Wednesday was our Way of the Roses 2017 Day 4 – York to Hutton Cranswick.

However, there were things to do before we left. Andy took our clothes off to a little laundrette on Walmgate Bar, where the owner was very helpful and friendly.

Whilst the laundry was being done, we went to Your Bike Shed cafe for breakfast. The food was good and the place was very interesting.

After breakfast, we walked over to York Minster and had a quick look around.

Unfortunately, we had to rush as we needed to go cycling but we will certainly be going back there!

We then walked over to the laundrette to collect our nice clean clothes and then back, along the city walls, to the Ibis Hotel to pick up our bikes.

We set off from the hotel, although we did miss out the section past the Minster. It was well after 2pm when we left.

We cycled out through Dunnington.

Then on to Scoreby, where we cycled along a track through the fields.

Our next destination was Stamford Bridge.

We then cycled through the lanes to Pocklington.

We stopped in Pocklington for a very late lunch (about 4pm).

Lunch was at the Deli Cafe.

We then set off on our journey to Hutton Cranswick via Millington and Huggate. The route was also part of the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route.

From Huggate we then made our way on towards Hutton Cranswick.

We dropped down into Tibthorpe and through to Kirkburn.

As we came onto Hutton Cranswick, there was a sign for our final destination.

We were staying at The White Horse Inn in Hutton Cranswick for the night. Although we didn’t arrive until after 6:30, it was still warm and sunny. It had been glorious all day!

We had cycled about 38 miles in total, all of it in the afternoon.

  1. I remember that route well. We stayed at the same pub – seem to remember it was a bit quirky and the next day we were joined at breakfast by a coachload of people off the the Races.
