Way of the Roses 2017 Day 1 – Lancaster to Austwick

Our Way of the Roses 2017 Day 1 began when we left the Lancaster Travelodge and cycled over the Millennium Bridge.

Lancaster to Morecambe

We then cycled along the river following NCN 69 to Morecambe.

Morecambe is where our Way of the Roses 2017 officially started. We had cycled just over 4 miles to Morecambe.

Morecambe to Austwick

Having got to the start point, we then cycled back along NCN 69 to Lancaster.

We cycled back over the Millennium Bridge and then we went in a different direction.

At the Crook of Lune we crossed over the river and then after a short section, we left the river.

We then climbed up towards Halton Hill.

We stopped at Hornby Post Office and Tea Rooms for a very nice lunch.

After lunch there were more climbs!

We then headed towards Clapham.

After Clapham we took the final leg of our journey to Austwick.

We were staying at the Wood View B&B in Austwick for the night. It was a lovely place and our hosts were wonderful!

We had a good evening meal at the Game Cock Inn, which was a couple of doors down the road. It was a very popular place.

The route from Morecambe to Austwick was about 29 miles, meaning we had cycled about 33 miles in total. There had been some great views!
