Walk around Toddbrook Reservoir

Walk around Toddbrook Reservoir

Today I should have been leading an SCCC ride to Culcheth but it was cancelled due to the weather. Instead three of us went for a snowy walk around Toddbrook Reservoir. We parked in Whaley Bridge in the car park near the River Goyt. We started out along Reservoir Road.

On the right there was a little lake, Brookfield Nature Pond, which was frozen over.

We had a look out across Toddbrook Reservoir before continuing on along the road.

The views along the way where stunning!

We turned off the road and followed it up to Start Lane.

We then took a detour off the road, walking up the hill to see the ‘Dipping Stone’. That was where they filled the holes with vinegar and it was into the vinegar that they used to leave money in the plague, so that others would buy food for them and then leave the food by the dipping stone.

Having got to the bottom of the hill, we turned off the road and walk along a path the followed parallel to Todd Brook.

From Memorial Park we walked back along Reservoir Road and from there back to the car park.

It had been a great walk with some wonderful views along the way. We had walked 5.5 miles in total. Afterwards we drove back via New Mills and stopped off at Pulse for some great brefreshments. We sat upstairs, which had some great views out across New Mills. It was a lovely cafe and we shall certainly go back again!
