Tegg’s Nose – An Autumn Hilly Ride

Tegg’s Nose – An Autumn Hilly Ride

Twelve hardy Stockport Community Cycling Club riders met at High Lane Village Hall on a cold November morning for the Autumn hilly ride, this one an Andy S special to Tegg’s Nose. I was back leading today – hence why many of the photos are taken from behind.

After leaving High Lane park we gently climbed our way out of High Lane and up along Jackson’s Edge Road.

From here we headed up Buxton Old Road and through Disley.

2016-11-06-10-33-26

We turned on to Mudhurst Lane as we headed for Kettleshulme.

It was already cold, especially now that we were leaving the suburbs, but as we turned off Mudhurst Lane and dropped down to Todd Brook the temperature dropped even further!

As we climbed back out of the dip however the views were great.

From Kettleshulme we cycled up Side End Lane.

This was a long and steady climb.

As we reached Jenkin Chapel some of the cyclists coming down the hill reported skidding on black ice.

Here we visited Tegg’s Nose Tea Room at the Visitor Centre for lunch. We were certainly ready for a break having already climbed 2500 feet and yet only covered 12 miles! Thankfully the afternoon promised to be a little flatter.

There was one (and only one) disappointment, it was a tad small and there weren’t enough seats for us plus other visitors. Apart from that, this was a great place to eat. The food was hearty and tasty and served relatively quickly, they had gluten-free options, and it was all very well priced. It is definitely a recommended place to try.

In the corner of the room there was a log burner, and Ian wasn’t looking forward to venturing out into the wet and cold. No worries, out came his arm warmers to be used as leg-warmers.

Having braved the weather again – it was now raining – we started to drop down towards the edge of Macclesfield.

2016-11-06-13-53-39

We turned off on to Back Eddisbury Road

2016-11-06-13-57-33

At least some of the locals were enjoying the colder weather!

We then cycled through Bollington and followed Shrigley Road on to Pott Shrigley.

Then along the edge of Lyme Park and in to Poynton.

2016-11-06-14-55-21

2016-11-06-15-00-40

Finally we crossed over the Buxton railway line as made for the A6 to return back to High Lane

2016-11-06-15-15-25

This was another excellent and challenging ride. We had only cycled 25 miles, but as usual with Andy Shaw’s rides these were quality miles. It was a shame it had been wet and cold, but thankfully this hadn’t dampened our spirits.
