St Cuthbert’s Way Coast-to-Coast Itinerary

St Cuthbert’s Way Coast-to-Coast Itinerary

This St Cuthbert’s Way Coast-to-Coast Itinerary outlines a 200-mile coast-to-coast tour which Andy and I will be cycling in summer 2021. It is inspired by the St Cuthbert’s Way walk. It also takes inspiration from the Scottish Borders Coast-to-Coast which Sarah and I cycled a few years ago. St Cuthbert’s Way is a 62-mile long-distance walking route. It is one of the most beautiful, varied and enjoyable routes in Britain, and one of Scotland’s Great Trails. We have, therefore, created this…

Scottish Borders Day 4 – Kelso to Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Scottish Borders Day 4 – Kelso to Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Scottish Borders Day 4 was the final day of our coast-to-coast cycle ride. We started the day in Kelso. We were staying at Duncan House. This section of Route 1 we have cycled previously, in the opposite direction, on the Coast and Castles South tour. This…

Scottish Borders Day 3 – Hawick to Kelso

Having spent the night in Hawick with some good friends, we were not in a rush to leave and begin our Scottish Borders Day 3 cycling. We went for a walk around Hawick Golf Course. It was a cool but bright day. After lunch we got ready to continue our cycling tour. We found some confetti in our cycle jerseys which we had washed there and then found that we had also had some balloons attached to our bicycles! It is…

Scottish Borders Day 2 – Canonbie to Hawick

Scottish Borders Day 2 – Canonbie to Hawick

For our Scottish Borders Day 2, we would be cycling from Canonbie and heading to Hawick, where we would be staying with friends. Due to a downpour, it was after 10 am when we left the Cross Keys Hotel, having thoroughly enjoyed our time there. This would be the hilliest day of our tour, and it began with a climb out of Canonbie to Rowanburn. Throughout this tour, we would see masses of grouse. From Rowanburn, we would make our…

Scottish Borders Day 1 – Carlisle to Gretna then Canonbie

Scottish Borders Day 1 – Carlisle to Gretna then Canonbie

Thursday was the first day of our honeymoon cycle tour, our Scottish Borders Day 1. We cycled from home to Stockport Station where we caught a train to Manchester and then an onward connection to Carlisle. The last time we were at Carlisle Station (on our Lochs and Glens South tour), they were still renovating it but that is all completed now. We stopped briefly at Costa just outside the station to grab some lunch. We used the lift near…
