Ravens Route Day 3 – Keswick to Appleby-in-Westmorland

Monday was Ravens Route Day 3. We left our B&B and cycled into the centre of Keswick and then headed out into the old railway line. After a couple of miles, we had to divert off the old railway line as it was closed. During the 2015 floods the bridges, we damaged and haven’t been restored as yet. We climbed up to the Castlerigg stone circle. We then continued along the Sea-to-Sea (C2C) alternative route towards Threlkeld. We made our…

SCCC Weekend Longer Ride – Mungrisdale, Matterdale and Ullswater

SCCC Weekend Longer Ride – Mungrisdale, Matterdale and Ullswater

After Saturdays wet ride from Lancaster, Sunday’s Stockport Community Cycling Club weekend longer ride promised a few hills, including Matterdale, but also some fantastic views. Newton Rigg – A Club Weekend Shorter Ride Sneek-Peek

The Stockport Community Cycling Club Weekend 2016 will be based at Newton Rigg College near Penrith. And similar to last year Jim, Andy S, Sarah and I have spent a weekend previewing the facilities and recceing the rides. Arriving Saturday lunchtime our aim was to recce the shorter of the two rides we will be offering on the Sunday of the club weekend. Interestingly, National Cycle Network Route 7 runs right through the middle of the college. This of course,…

E2E Day 13 – Windermere to Carlisle

E2E Day 13 – Windermere to Carlisle

E2E Day 13. We are in to the second half of our End-to-End now and today was our last day in England. And what a lovely day it was. Upon leaving Windermere YHA we headed up the Kirkstone Pass. Their had been talk the previous evening of how ‘horrendous’ this climb was. Frankly however this proved false. Maybe we are seeing that we are now much stronger riders, maybe we treated it with respect but the 5 mile pass proved…
