SCCC Weekend – Day 2 Pocklington

SCCC Weekend – Day 2 Pocklington

Sunday was day 2 of the Stockport Community Cycling Club weekend away (click here to read about day 1). There were two rides, one which went to Pocklington. The original plan was for two rides: a flat 30 mile ride along part of the Way of the Roses and past York Minster, and a hillier 50 mile route calling at Malton for lunch. However the weather forecast for Sunday was really bad – heavy rain and strong winds. Even that morning the forecast was still the same,  so the plans for the longer ride were changed – a shorter and flatter ride, which could be cut shorter if the weather was really bad.

Unfortunately I was feeling unwell this weekend and woke up on Sunday feeling much worse. I had to make the sad decision not to ride at all!

The two groups of cyclists set off together along the Way of the Roses as far as Stamford Bridge.

From there the group split into two and went different ways. Those doing the longer route headed off via Bishop Wilton and then taking a slight detour – to climb a hill!

They then dropped down into Pocklington for lunch, where I met up with them. They had managed to escape the rain in the morning but it started to rain hard as we got to the pub!

Lunch was in the taken in the Black Swan and we all enjoyed it. By the time they were setting off again after lunch, it had almost stopped raining and soon did.

They then headed back to York University via Melbourne and Sutton upon Derwent. They had cycled about 40 miles. Just as we set off for home in the car, it started to pour with rain!
