Jodrell Bank – Come Back (again) Ride

Jodrell Bank – Come Back (again) Ride

Since falling off my bike a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t think I would be able to complete this ride but as the weather was so nice at the weekend, I decided to give the SCCC Jodrell Bank Ride a go! The ride started in the car park near Wilmslow Leisure Centre. Being sensible, I drove to the starting point.

It was obviously going to be another lovely day as we gathered at the start.

Andy Shaw – the ride leader for the day

We left the leisure centre and cycled under the railway line, over the A34 and onto Wilmslow Park North.

We cycled on through Dean Row and Newton.

We then made our way up Hare Hill.

Around Birtles, we followed a track, which turned into a cobbled lane.

It was down this track that we had to stop for a while. There was a rider on a horse which got spooked by the some bikes and threw it’s rider. She got up and started to run after the horse but soon tired and started to walk, so we all waited to give her time to try and catch the horse without us causing any issues!

After a while, we continued along the track, onto the cobbled road towards Nether Alderley.

We crossed over the A34 again and made our way towards Chelford.

Our route then took us down the back roads to Jodrell Bank, where we were going for lunch.

Jodrell Bank

They had a good sized bike shed at Jodrell Bank but it is also very popular place with cyclists.

After a nice lunch, it was time to continue our ride.

Leaving Jodrell Bank

We start heading towards Goostrey but then turned off towards Over Peover.

We then continued through Marthal.

It was just after this that Andy Sykes stopped to change the battery in his camera, I stopped with him to take my jacket off. Just as we were setting off again, he managed to kick is mudguard and it all came loose and had to be repaired. This meant that we had to cycle really fast to catch the rest of the group up.

Just as we caught up with them, Lynn found that she had a puncture. Whilst a few stopped to fix it for her, the rest of the group cycled on slightly so  get off the main road. We waited for them near ‘Rachel’s seat’ as we know it, which is a dis-used bus stop near Great Warford. It was named after a lady called Rachel who used to cycle with the club.

Once the puncture was repaired, we all set off again and made our way back towards Wilmslow.

Battery Lane

Having returned to Wilmslow Leisure Centre, we had cycled about 29 miles. It had been a glorious day and I had thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Having had to cycle flat out for a while to catch up with the main group, I still felt OK by the time we reached the end and my back felt fine! I was very pleased with my come back (again) ride!
