Conwy Half Marathon 2013

Conwy Half Marathon 2013

Sunday 24th November was the 2013 Conwy Half Marathon which is organised by Run Wales. We arrived in Conwy just before 10 am and had a short walk along the quayside.  It wasn’t too busy.

There was an important visit to L’s Coffee and Book Shop for coffee and lovely cake!

Feeling suitably refreshed, we went back to the car and got ourselves ready. It was actually much warmer in Conwy than it had been in Stockport.

Once we were about ready, we headed back to the quayside to drop off a bag with our fleeces in and then the obligatory queue for the toilets.  It was then just before 12 and time to line up ready for the start – it was now incredibly busy!

Time to start off. Can you just make out the start up near the Castle?

And then they were off but it was a few minutes before we got to the start. As the race numbers had timing chips on the back,  our time started as we passed the start line.  I did take a few pictures during the run, not many as I didn’t think they would work but actually they aren’t too bad!

Unfortunately at about the 12 mile mark,  Andy had a bit of a pain and had to stop briefly,  he was really upset. After walking briefly he was able to continue but at a slower pace (although in pain). He was very determined to finish,  which we managed to do in an official time of 2:04:04 which we were very pleased with!

Having collected our medals and race t shirts, we headed back to the car to have a drink, snack and get changed.

The first part of our celebrations was more coffee and cake (back at L’s Coffee and Book Shop as it is nice there!).

Part two was a celebratory drink at The Albion,  where we met some really lovely people. Andy was overwhelmed by the number of localreal ales that they sold there. We even met the race organiser there who asked us about our experience of the day.

The final part of the celebration was an Indian meal at the Raj – very excellent it was too!

It was then time to head back home as we both had work the next day.

However we both really enjoyed the day and the race was a wonderful experience. Great scenery and lots of friendly people. We can highly recommend this race to anyone looking for a half marathon to run.
