Three months to go before our first cycling tour of 2013, our Coast and Castles South itinerary is taking shape.

There will be seven of us cycling the tour – Andy P, Sarah, Andy S, Des, Neil, Debbie, and Tracey. All, apart from Tracey, have cycled tours together before. We welcome Tracey as the new member of the team. We are sure she will prove an excellent addition to our team and will have a great time with us.

Sustrans says ‘The Coast and Castles South cycle route links the Forth and Tyne estuaries, joining Newcastle and Edinburgh via miles of unspoiled coastline and some of Britain’s best built – and natural – heritage’.

Day 1 – Tynemouth to Whitley Bay

Journey to Newcastle.
Cycle to Tynemouth.
Then begin Coast and Castles South by cycling to Whitley Bay (Distance: 15 miles)
Stay at  York House Hotel, Whitley Bay.

Day 2 – Whitley Bay to Alnwick

Cycle from Whitley Bay to Alnwick (Distance: 43 miles)
Staying at Alnwick Youth Hostel, Alnwick.

Day 3 – Alnwick to Lindisfarne

Cycle from Alnwick to Lindisfarne (Distance: 42 miles)
Staying at Brock Mill Farmhouse, Beal.

Day 4 – Lindisfarne to Coldstream

Cycle from Lindisfarne to Coldstream (Distance: 40 miles)
Stay at Castle Hotel, Coldstream.

Day 5 – Coldstream to Innerleithen

Cycle from Coldstream to Innerleithen (Distance: 46 miles)
Staying at The Bike Lodge, Innerleithen.

Day 6 – Innerleithen to Edinburgh

Cycle from Innerleithen to Edinburgh – the official finish of Coast and Castles South (Distance: 39 miles)
Staying at SYHA Edinburgh Central.
Evening celebration.

Day 7 – Edinburgh to Dunbar

Tracey to journey home.
Andy S and Debbie set off on respective family holidays.
Andy P, Sarah, Des and Neil cycle on to Dunbar following the Coast and Castles South alternative route – (Distance: 36 miles)
Staying at the Royal Mackintosh Hotel, Dunbar.

Day 8 – Dunbar to Berwick-Upon-Tweed

Cycle from Dunbar to Berwick-Upon-Tweed, and finish of the Coast and Castles South alternative route (Distance: 34 miles)
Staying at Berwick Youth Hostel, Berwick-Upon-Tweed.

Day 9 – Post-Tour

Journey home.
