Coast & Castles North Day 5 – Stonehaven to Aberdeen

For Coast and Castles North Day 5 we woke up on a Thursday morning to a very different day – the sun was shining!

Having had breakfast we left our bags at the hotel and set off back to Dunnottar Castle. The views on the way back there were great! We could never have guessed the previous night.

We arrived at Dunnottar Castle, parked up our bikes and went for a look around.

As we were leaving Dunnottar Castle, there was a piper in action.

We cycled back to the hotel, collected our bags and set off on the last leg of our Coast and Castles North.

Cookney

We reached a sign which showed that the road was closed except to local traffic. We couldn’t have cycled, so we set off walking …

As we reached the end of the road works, the road was fenced off and we had to move the fence slightly to get through!

We continued past more major roadworks where they were building a new road.

We spotted a sign for a cafe and decided to stop. It was called the Tin Coo.

It was a farm shop/cafe that had a kids place area. A really great place it was too!

After lunch, we cycled back to the main road and continued our journey. As we left the Tin Coo, it was raining!

As we reached the edges of Aberdeen, the cycle path was closed due to harbour enhancements, so we had to divert along the road for a brief while.

We cycled past some large ships in Aberdeen Harbour.

As we crossed over the bridge, we spotted a seal in the water. Having watched for a while we continued to Aberdeen Station where Coast and Castles North ride finished.

We then made our way to the Ibis Hotel where we were staying for the night.

Having checked in, we went to a local cafe (Union Cafe & Bistro) for coffee and cake.

After a quick shower and change, we went out for a celebratory meal at Las Iguanas. It was not anywhere that any of us had been before, but it is certainly somewhere we would all go again!

The food was great! After our meal, we made our way to the Brewdog pub for a drink.

It had been a great day. We had cycled about 30 miles in total, including our trip to the castle but it had been a great day.
