Celtic Trail Day 2 – St David’s to Tenby

Celtic Trail Day 2 – St David’s to Tenby

Today was Celtic Trail Day 2 of our cycle tour – St David’s to Tenby. We woke up to very different weather from yesterday! We could hear the wind but it was dry.

We left St David’s Youth Hostel and headed into St David’s.

When we got there we stopped and had a look around at the Bishops Palace and the Cathedral

St David’s Tomb

We continued along NCN 4 out of St David’s towards Haverfordwest.

The road dropped down into Newgale where the beach looked great!

We then continued to Broad Haven following the coast, so it was very up and down.

The route skirted around Haverfordwest.

We picked up the Brunel Trail from Johnston through Westfield Pill over the Claddau estuary.

The route then took us through Pembroke Dock and then onwards to Pembroke Castle.

We had planned to visit the cafe at Pembroke Castle for afternoon tea but unfortunately it is closed on a Monday. However we did find a fantastic cafe nearby!

Feeling refreshed, we set off for Tenby.

There were plenty more ‘lumps’ along the way.

The route took us through St Florence village.

We then reached the edge of Tenby.

Having checked in at the Premier Inn, the boys were keen to find the perfect pint. The went to the Lifeboat Inn where they tried to get a pint of local ale – the barrel ran dry so they didn’t all get a local one (but seemed to enjoy it anyway!).

It was quite late by now, so we headed back to the Premier Inn for a shower and then some food.

We had cycled 47 miles and climbed about 3700 feet. It was quite a tough day but the weather was kind to us – I even managed to get a touch of sunburn.
